Home for Moms & Babies

The Home – Opening Fall 2008

  • The Home for Moms and Babies provides housing to young women facing an unplanned pregnancy.
  • Our maternity home is licensed by the state of Tennessee as a Child Placing Agency through the Department of Children’s Services.
  • Admission to the program is strictly voluntary.
  • The criteria for a prospective resident are: pregnant, in need of housing, desire to learn and grow, and a willingness to adhere to program policies and procedures.

The Program
We use a multi-service approach by addressing medical, psychological, spiritual and educational needs. An individual service plan will serve to help each resident reach her personal goals. Each woman will receive counseling and education about parenting and adoption to ensure she makes an informed decision about her future and the future of her child. Classes, counseling and case management services offered will assist these women in achieving self-sufficiency and independence upon discharge from the program. The home environment will serve to support each woman as she takes strides towards building a stable life for herself and her child.

A Story of How Joy Met Hope

In 1997, Adrianne reached a turning point in her life. She was unmarried and pregnant with no means of support and nowhere to go. Scared and confused so turned to her aunt, Barbara for help.

After exhausting all avenues for help, Barbara realized there was no residential home in Nashville where a mother and her child could receive safe housing and assistance. Motivated by love for her niece and believing there must be others like Adrianne, Barbara founded Joy Ministries.

For 10 years, Joy Ministries was the only residential home providing moms and babies with a supportive environment where their spiritual and emotional needs were met as they began a path towards independence through the continuum of services provided by the program.

In 2008 Hope Clinic for Women celebrates its 25th Anniversary. This ministry began with Luci Freed and a handful of concerned individuals who saw a desperate need for women facing an unplanned pregnancy… from those desperate moments of discovery through those critical months ahead. Today we are serving over 10,000 women and men at our Nashville and Spring Hill offices and through our school and community programs.

Each year we serve over 400 young women dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. We are able to walk with them through the pregnancy, providing incredible medical, counseling, educational and practical support… still nearly for free, yet there is something missing. There is no place for them to live, no way to support themselves or their child, no way to finish their education and no long term life skills to prepare them for the road ahead with a child...

And here is where Joy meets Hope.

Joy Ministry’s limited staff and resources and the growing need of Hope Clinic women needing a place to live brought the two organizations together. Sharing the same love and commitment for these women; in 2007, Joy Ministries decided to deed the residence to Hope Clinic for the balance of the mortgage on the home. Hope Clinic for Women would continue to serve the unmet need in the community identified so many years ago and experienced still today.
