Why an Ultrasound Matters

A prenatal ultrasound provides real-time images of your developing baby and the surrounding structures. These images are powerful tools that:

  • Confirm pregnancy viability, including detecting the fetal heartbeat and ruling out ectopic pregnancy 

  • Establish gestational age and due date, especially during the first trimester, ensuring better pregnancy planning

What Is a Confirmation Ultrasound?

A confirmation ultrasound is for individuals who have a positive pregnancy test and have not yet established prenatal care or are still making decisions about their pregnancy. This ultrasound helps confirm that the pregnancy is located in the uterus, assess the viability of the pregnancy, estimate how far along you are, and guide the next steps in your care.

A confirmation ultrasound may be appropriate if you:

  • Have a positive pregnancy test and have not yet established care with an OB or prenatal provider
  • Are still making decisions about your pregnancy and need more medical information
  • Need to confirm the location and viability of your pregnancy
  • Need help determining how far along your pregnancy is
  • Would like assistance connecting with an OB or other community resources

 

Please note: If you are already established with an OB or prenatal care provider, we encourage you to continue your care with that provider for your ultrasound and ongoing prenatal care.
